LUKE METHERELL

Luke is the on-screen host of The Side Trail. He was born and raised in the greater Yellowstone area, an ecosystem that has been described as North America’s Serengeti. Growing up in a family of outfitters, whose main practice was leading expeditions into the untamed parts of western Wyoming, Luke began introducing people to wild animals and places from a young age. This lifestyle led him to become an avid outdoorsman both in his career and in his free time.

 

Luke’s life has led him everywhere from the sunny shores of southern California to the most remote reaches of northern Alaska, well beyond the arctic circle. In his professional life, Luke has seen a variety of work from acting to guiding whitewater rafting, to a career more recently in wildlife research and conservation. In the field of wildlife, he first worked for San Diego Zoo Global on their endangered species projects. But after tiring of having his field meetings at Starbucks, he decided to pursue a more remote wildlife career in Alaska with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

 

Luke spends all of his free time on the side trails of life, whether its skiing, hiking, hunting or fly fishing. Between his professional life and past times, Luke has a wide range of knowledge from scientific knowledge to survival techniques. Luke brings this breadth of knowledge to The Side Trail in the hopes of carrying on his family’s tradition of educating, entertaining and sharing a passion for wild critters and spaces with its audience.
